This black and gold meditation mala (rosary) is handmade by Ugandan villagers using recycled newspaper and barkcloth beads colored with natural plant dye. The beads are used to count through prayers or mantras, and it is believed that the number 108 holds special spiritual significance when meditating. In African tradition, it is believed that the "1" represents Truth, the "0" represents Completeness, and the "8" represents Infinity. This mala measures about 52 inches long.
Handmade in Africa: bead size and color will vary.
