The soapstone used to create these majestic bookends originates from the Tabaka Hills of Western Kenya, where the stone is known as kisii. Tribesmen from the bantu ethnic groups of the Kisii highlands mine the stone using hand tools and carve it using traditional methods. The kissi stone can be carved into various products such as vases, trays and food bowls.
These abstract elephant bookends are a prime example of the beauty of Kenyan craftsmanship. Made from beautiful soapstone with a smooth burgundy hue, they look fantastic in any library, den or office. Each end measures about 6.5 inches high and weighs 3.75 pounds, providing the heft to support even the bulkiest book collection.
Handmade in Kenya: no two sets are made alike. Slight variations in size and color will be apparent, adding to the artistic quality of each unique set.
