The image of the Laughing Buddha is based on a wandering Chinese monk, Budai (Hotei, in Japanese) who lived centuries ago and is believed to be Maitreya, or the Buddha to come. This statue's plump figure and benign countenance suggest contentment, magnanimity and plenitude. Here he is seen in prayer with hands clasped together and large ears open to hear the needs of the world. Statue measures 6 inches high and weighs 3 pounds. The statue is purposefully weathered in appearance and can be displayed indoors or outside.
Made in Indonesia. Intentional and organic scuffs and overall rough texture are apparent. Statues will vary in appearance and color. No two items are made alike.
When used outdoors, the figure's finish may change naturally over time. To prevent damage from freezing temperatures, we recommend either covering the item, applying a sealant or moving the item indoors during extreme weather conditions.
