The image of the Laughing Buddha is based on a wandering Chinese monk, Budai (Hotei, in Japanese) who lived centuries ago and is believed to be Maitreya, or the Buddha to come. This statue's plump figure and benign countenance suggest contentment, magnanimity and plenitude. Statue measures 8 x 5.5 x 4.5 inches and weighs just over 6 pounds. Antique brown finish is purposefully weathered and can withstand outdoor use in a garden or deck area.
