Amitabha Buddha Tibetan Thangka Wall Hanging

A Thangka is a type of banner and traditionally features a spiritual painting on a fabric background. Originating in Tibet between the 7th and 12th century, Thangka wall hangings were hung in monasteries, family altars, and used in ceremonial processions. Their images of deities and various religious scenes were a means to teach others about the life and ways of the Buddha. Framed by an ornate brocade fabric, this thangka features Amitabha, one of the five celestial Buddhas of the Mahayana, also known as the Dhyani Buddhas. His red skin color denotes the element of fire and also represents the West.

This beautiful thangka was made in Nepal. Each one is truly unique, displaying artistic differences in color and fabric designs. Such variations are signs of the maker’s handmade touch. This banner measures about 23 inches across at the top and about 38 inches long. The hanging’s framed painting measures approximately 11 inches across and 14 inches long.
