This colorful statue depicts Ganesh, the Remover of All Obstacles, with a rat at his feet and a snake around his belly. It is said that on his birthday, Ganesh had eaten too many sweets and then decided to go out on a moonlit ride with his rat. Stumbling across a snake, the rat was startled and shook Ganesh off, causing Ganesh's belly to burst open. Ganesh grabbed the snake and tied it around his middle to keep all his entrails in. The moon, having witnessed the whole scene, was overcome with laughter. In anger, Ganesh broke off one of his tusks and threw it at the moon, leaving himself with only a single tusk. Recall this ancient story whenever your eyes happen upon this artistically detailed statue.
