A Thangka is a type of banner and traditionally features a spiritual painting on a fabric background. Originating in Tibet between the 7th and 12th century, Thangka wall hangings were hung in monasteries, family altars, and used in ceremonial processions. Their images of deities and various religious scenes were a means to teach others about the life and ways of the Buddha. Framed by an ornate brocade fabric, this thangka features the Blue Medicine Buddha. Medicine Buddha can be identified by the bowl of healing herbs in his hand. It is said that his image emanates therapeutic energy.
This beautiful thangka was made in Nepal. Each one is truly unique, displaying artistic differences in color and fabric designs. Such variations are signs of the maker’s handmade touch. This banner measures 22 inches across and 32 inches long. Painting is about 11 x 14 inches.
Handcrafted: Artistically created by hand where beauty and imperfections go together wonderfully. Please accept and appreciate minor imperfections and variations which are true characteristics of this craft.
