Meaning & Intention

Jade was carved in China for five thousand years before it was traded, and dark jade was kept for amulets: worn against harm, passed from a parent to a child. The round disc with a motif cut into it follows that line.

The dragon circling the center is the Chinese emblem of strength and good fortune, and the character it guards is shou, long life. Together they are the oldest wish there is: live long, and be protected while you do.

The single red bead is the color of festivals and doorways, the one bright note on a dark strand.
