Cast in bronze alloy, this hand-held meditation bell wears raised patterns across its hollow cup, with an etched Buddha face at the base of the sculpted handle. In Buddhist and Hindu practice, the ring is used to mark the shift from distraction into focus. Sound it to open a sitting, and once more to close it.

Details
  • Design: Traditional hand-held meditation bell with raised decorative patterns edge to edge on the hollow cup, and a sculpted handle culminating in an etched Buddha face just below the grip
  • Size: 6" x 3.5"
  • Material: Cast bronze alloy
  • Included: Handle and base come apart for cleaning or storage
  • Care: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth to preserve the natural patina. Avoid harsh cleaners or excess moisture that can dull the bronze finish
  • Origin: Made in India
  • Note: Each bell is individually hand-cast, so slight variations in patina, tone, and surface detail are natural and part of its handmade character
Meaning & Intention

The bell has long held a sacred place in Buddhist and Hindu ritual as an instrument of awakening. Its ring is said to cut through the noise of the ordinary mind, calling attention back to the present moment the instant it sounds.

In many traditions, the tone represents the sound of emptiness itself — all things arising and dissolving, much like the note it produces.

The Buddha face set into the handle grounds that momentary sound in enlightened presence. The ornate bands encircling the body echo the layered artistry of temple bells throughout South Asia.

In ceremony, the bell is often paired with a dorje or used alone to mark the opening and closing of practice — from the everyday into the sacred.

Questions & Guidance

How do I use it during a sitting practice?

One clear ring opens the sitting, and another closes it, bookending the stillness between. Hold the handle with a slow, deliberate hand so each strike lands as its own small punctuation mark.

Can it be used with other ritual objects?

Yes. In ceremony the bell is often paired with a dorje, or used alone to signal transition from distraction to focus. It also works well alongside incense, mala, or a singing bowl.

Where is a good place to keep it?

On an altar or beside your meditation cushion, within easy reach. Its weight and detail invite a slower hand each time you pick it up, turning the gesture itself into part of the ritual.

The bell is gorgeous. Heavy brass and carving is as pictured. The bell sound itself is not super great.
