The endless knot, the Tibetan symbol of a single line that never breaks, is carved into every bead of this mala, the pattern picked out in tan against a pale cream ground. Olive tassels and two counter strands finish it in the Tibetan way. Light in color and in the hand, it wears as a necklace between sittings.

Meaning & Intention

The endless knot is drawn as one line that crosses over and under itself and returns to where it began. In Tibetan Buddhism it is one of the eight auspicious symbols, a picture of how nothing stands alone: wisdom and compassion, cause and effect, you and everyone you have ever met, all one thread.

On a pale bead the carving reads clearly, each loop shaded in tan where the knife went deepest. The ridges are what the thumb follows through a hundred and eight beads; the guru bead marks the start and the counter strands keep the rounds.

How do I count with it?

Start at the bead next to the guru bead and move one bead per breath or mantra until you return to it. Slide a disc on a counter strand to mark each round.

Can I wear it as a necklace?

Yes. It is long enough to go over the head and sits mid-chest, or it wraps several times around the wrist.
