Strand of small mother-of-pearl beads that drops to a round brown jasper disc patterned like sandstone, hung from a column of black beads beneath one polished black bead. Shell, stone and the open circle of the bi disc, in cream, black and tan. Wear it over linen or a dark knit, where the disc can swing.

Meaning & Intention

Jasper is an opaque quartz colored by the minerals it formed with, and brown jasper looks like what it is: packed earth, sandstone, a riverbank in dry weather. It has long been worn as a stone of grounding and steadiness.

The bi shape, a disc with a hole at its center, is the oldest ornament in China, carved as an emblem of heaven. Earth stone cut into the sign for sky.

Mother-of-pearl completes it: the inside of a shell, soft and reflective, the sea beside the stone.
