Meaning & Intention

Tingsha bells have long accompanied Himalayan meditation, their bright chime used to mark the beginning and end of a session or to clear the space around it.

Struck at the rims rather than clashed, they release a slow-fading tone that gives the mind a single point of focus, a sound to follow inward until it dissolves into silence.

This pair is engraved with Om Namah Shivay, one of the oldest invocations in Hindu devotion. Loosely translated as 'I bow to Shiva,' it is understood as an act of surrender to the consciousness said to reside within all things.

Shiva here represents the principle of transformation: the dissolving of what no longer serves, making room for renewal.

Each strike sends the resonance of the words outward, a small ritual of letting go and beginning again.

Questions & Guidance

How do you play tingsha bells?

Hold one bell by its cord in each hand and strike the outer edges together lightly, letting them separate right after contact so the tone can ring out fully.

When should I use them during meditation?

Many practitioners strike them once to open a session and again at the close, using the fading tone as a cue to settle in or return to waking awareness.

Can they be used outside of meditation?

Yes. They are also used to clear stagnant energy in a room, mark transitions in a ritual, or invite a moment of stillness during the day.
