Two strands of tumbled lapis lazuli chips in deep ultramarine, flecked here and there with pyrite, strung close so the blue reads as one band. Lapis was ground into the pigment that painted the robes of saints; worn, it is associated with truth and clear speech. Wear the strands loose or twisted, against white or camel.

Meaning & Intention

Lapis lazuli came from one set of mountains in Afghanistan for most of history, and from there to Egyptian tombs, Sumerian crowns and the ultramarine of Renaissance painting, where it cost more than gold.

It is associated with truth, self-knowledge and the courage to say what you mean, the stone of the throat.

The pyrite flecks are not a flaw. They are the gold in the blue, the reason the old lapidaries called it a piece of night sky.

Can I twist the strands?

Yes. The two strands hang loose, so you can let them fall side by side or twist them once or twice before clasping for a rope effect.

Is the length adjustable?

Yes. The clasp closes anywhere along the 2.5 inch extender, so the necklace sits from the collarbone to just below it.

Are the stones polished?

They are tumbled, which rounds the edges but keeps each chip its own shape. The irregular surface is what catches the light.
