Meaning & Intention

At the base sits Om Mani Padme Hum, one of the oldest and most widely chanted mantras in Tibetan Buddhism, often translated as 'the jewel is in the lotus.'

Each of the six syllables is traditionally linked to a quality to cultivate — generosity, ethics, patience, diligence, renunciation, and wisdom.

The syllables are arranged in a circle, radiating from a central point like spokes on a wheel. Meditation itself is circular: breath returning to breath, attention returning to the present.

Struck and rubbed to life, the bowl seems to lift those intentions into the room as sound.

Questions & Guidance

How do I play it?

Tap the outer edge with the wooden striker to start a tone, then hold the striker against the rim and circle it steadily to build a sustained, humming vibration.

How do I use it in a session?

A few slow strikes and a slow circling along the rim work as an opening or closing. Let the sound fade completely before you move on.

Where should I keep it between uses?

Its weight and finish suit it to stay out on a table or altar, resting on the silk cushion, ready whenever a pause is needed.
