In many East African carving traditions, the heart is a fairly recent motif layered onto a much older stone. Kisii soapstone has been quarried and worked for generations near Tabaka, Kenya.

These carved and etched soapstone hearts have a nice smooth finish. Holding one in the palm of your hand just feels good. I bought a number of them to give as Christmas gifts to my yoga students.
