Kuan Yin, also known as Guanyin, is revered across Buddhist traditions as the embodiment of compassion — a bodhisattva said to have paused at the threshold of enlightenment to remain within reach of every being still suffering.

Here she appears in royal ease, seated loosely upon rock and water with one knee raised. The posture is traditionally read as restful awareness: neither rigid in meditation nor removed from the world, but fully present within it.

This form is sometimes called Water-Moon Kuan Yin, a reference to the teaching that all appearances — like the moon's reflection on water — are real in effect yet without fixed substance.

The lotus beneath her foot rises clean from murky water, a long-standing sign of awakening amid difficulty.

No. She sits on her own sculpted rock-and-wave base, so any level surface — earth, stone, wood, or shelf — will hold her steady without a stand.

Are Kuan Yin and Guanyin the same figure?

Yes. Guanyin is the Mandarin romanization and Kuan Yin an older spelling. Both name the same bodhisattva of compassion and mercy in the Buddhist tradition.

Is she easy to reposition between indoors and the garden?

At about 8.5 lbs she is substantial but portable, so she can move with the seasons — a shelf in winter, a shaded garden nook or patio in warmer months.

This statue is even more lovely in person than it is in photos. It is solid and heavy and looks like a high-end piece of art, while you can tell it will be durable outside in the garden. It arrived in perfect condition (and very quickly). We had wanted a Quanyin statue and I looked all over the internet for options; this one at Buddha Groove is by far the most attractive of them all. And the price, for what you get, is very fair. The detailing is impressive as well--the piece looks wonderful from every angle, including from behind, so you can place it anywhere in your garden. I am so pleased with this statue. Every day when we arrive home and see her, we feel peace and relaxation--a wonderful way to come home!
